"The Slaughterhouse is rapidly becoming an important venue in the Bay Area, even if it is in Oakland and ya gotta truck over there on our uncivilized BART system, which closes at an inconvienent time, or if you drive over there. I was privileged enough to hook up with my friend Jeremy, who has the discipline not to drink, and I got to go and drink and be a passenger, the best of all worlds. Anyways, we got there fashionably late-ish and missed the first two bands,(Deathtoll and Belabor) but came just in time to catch the middle of Uphill Battle's set, which was very adequate. These adorable guys were from Ventura, I found out later, and I had a long conversation with the drummer, Danny, and the vocalist/bassist, Casey, about their scene v.s. up here. They loved the Slaughterhouse, as there is not too much going on in Ventura, they said. After running into a buncha peoples, like the S.T.F.U. guys, Jay from UGZPUNX who got me in free (thanks, Jay!), Marcus Pyrate Punx and Sean from Jewdriver, to name-drop a few, Blown to Bits made those crazy kids all excited and mixed up a good pit. In fact, the Slaughterhouse is pretty rowdy when it comes to pits; even I was daunted, and that is hard to do. I do love to see people fly into the standing crowd to cause mayhem, though. You never know what shit will get fucked up.

The pitch built up with SMD, and I suppose it was all hardcore thrashin' metal-ish type stuff, the kind that parents shake their head and wonder how these kids can even think that's music. We all ate it up. Finally, Watch Them Die performed a sweaty and energetic set and really had the most active, drunken pit to end the show. I found out from Atakra later that members of Watch Them Die used to be in Grimple, for all you obsessed-I-got-to-connect-who-with-who types. There was no major injuries, the cops weren't attracted by any untowards events, and I didn't even see any blood this time. All in all, a successful Saturday at the Slaughterhouse. You should go check them out if you haven't. I ain't gonna give directions, 'cause Jeremy drove."
