GRIMPLE was formed in November,1990 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a town cradled by the Blood Of Christ Mountains. We were raised on metal and early hardcore, but we were never afraid of listening to other types of music, like the SUGAR HILL GANG. GRIMPLE moved to Oakland, CA in August of 1991.

The first GRIMPLE recording was a four song EP called, "Get Me Out Of My Van, I Have No Key." It was recorded in our Oakland practice space by Noah Landis (Neurosis) and our friend Darby. The music was melodic punk rock mixed with fast hardcore. GRIMPLE recorded its first full length LP, "Up Your Ass," in March of 1992. It was recorded by Kevin Army in San Francisco at Sound & Vision Studios, and mixed at Dancing Dog Studios in Oakland. Now available from Prank Records.

GRIMPLE recorded its first full length LP, "Up Your Ass," in March of 1992. It was recorded by Kevin Army in San Francisco at Sound & Vision Studios, and mixed at Dancing Dog Studios in Oakland."UP YOUR ASS," was first released by M&E Records (Murray and Eric), and It was later re-released by East Bay Menace Records. Our first LP was a success, and thousands were sold in the states, as well as Japan. We completed our first American tour in 1992, and it consisted of playing small clubs, basements, and garages. It was fun, and it was a great introduction to freedom for all of us. Now available from Prank Records.

GRIMPLE'S next recording was a split LP with LOGICAL NONSENSE. It was recorded once again by Noah Landis in July of 1993 at Sergay's Recording Emporium. The GRIMPLE/LOGICAL NONSENSE split was released by East Bay Menace Records, which, we assume, has either given up or gone under. Our sound was still fast punk, but we were revealing more of our metal influences.

MORE INFORMATION: Noah Landis plays keyboards in NEUROSIS now, but back in the 1980s Noah was in a band that used to play with NEUROSIS called CHRIST ON PARADE. Other members of CHRIST ON PARADE went on to form bands such as GRINCH and BLISTER, and all of those bands were major influences on many punk and hardcore bands that came after.

Murray of M&E Records is Murray Bowles, and he has been a part of both the East Bay and South Bay scenes since the early eighties. Murray is known as the punk rock photographer in the Bay Area, and this culminated somewhat in the late eighties when MAXIMUMROCKNROLL published a book of his photos Murray has also been a contributor to MRR, as well as many other zines. Murray is responsible for starting several labels, none of which are active today. He is currently playing in the band DING DANG, which is a country outfit that has been punked out in the past by people like Dave Chavez (CODE OF HONOR) and Dave Mello (OPERATION IVY) on the LP, and more recently by Mike-O-Psycho (FILTH) and Hal from the LIZARDS live.

Eric is Eric Yee, and he was thanked on the first VERBAL ABUSE album. East Bay champion of the early eighties, and precursor to the late eighties punk elitism that nearly strangled the scene.

LOGICAL NONSENSE reigned supreme on the New Mexico scene for years, and played shows with GRIMPLE on their 1999 North American Tour. LOGICAL NONSENSE is no longer together, but former members of LOGICAL NONSENSE have gone on to start bands called WARPATH and FACE DOWN. Note: LOGICAL NONSENSE is once again together, and Mikey Miller is also in a band with Sonny from WORD SALAD called BULLET TRAIN MAFIA.
