Based in Fresno, Ca with Oakland, CA connections, ADT has been playing shows and supporting UGZ/Ear2TheGround Punx since 2004. They play an early eighties UK influenced style of hardcore, but with an America's Dirty Thirty's twist or two that keeps it sounding fresh, urgent, and political without sounding preachy. |
Hailing from the East Bay, DT has been wokring closely with us since 2003. Featuring former members of ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, I'MADMAN, and others, DT plays an agressive, technically on point brand of Swedish influenced hardcore. Dare I say D-beat? Elements of classic eighties American hardcore as well. |
San Jose, CA two piece that crosses death metal, grind, and even some Scandi-thrash sounding parts. They have been on our go to list since 2004. One of the few bands that can play metal, hardcore, and grind shows. I think we've asked them to do all three at some point over the last couple of years. |
The first time we booked JFC was on New Year's Day 2005. I'm not sure if they would call themselves an Ear2TheGround Punx band, but they are one band that we like, support, and will continue to book as often as is possible. One current member of NEUROSIS + an ex-DEADLY WEAPON and the ex-drummer of PITCH BLACK = eighties Northwest influenced hardcore meets Deaf Club punk. Good shit. |
LAUDANUM have been a fixture on the East Bay scene, as well as the Ear2TheGround Punx radar, since 2002. More recently LAUDANUM has begun to incorporate noise tracks with their heavy as shit SABBATH, MELVINS, all things heavy worship. |
Ex-ELDOPA(1332) member Bryan Ward has returned with an entertaining, inventive work in progress that has both elements of ELDOPA and his post-ELDOPA band MURDERTAKESNOHOLIDAY. We began to work with this band in 2004 and have gone on to be friends, fans, etc. The three piece that everyone became so familiar with has aprently given way to a new four piece line-up that will debut in 2006. |
Members of BLOWN TO BITS and STFU, playing ACCUSED influenced hardcore punk. That is a very simple description, but it's a good generalization of what SA is about. Our old friend and UGZ contributor Jake Skate is in this band! |
Oakland based thrashers that have remained loyal to the cause since 2002. Influenced by bands like Exodus, Slayer, and even old black metal bands like Bathory. Currently features ex-members of GRIMPLE, ELDOPA, WORD SALAD, & HIGH ON FIRE. |
Blazing three piece from the East Bay. Some have compared AOS to hardcore legends like RORSHACH...hmmm...but whatever the comparison you can be sure that ACTS OF SEDITION are d.i.y. to the core. They walk it like they talk it and it only takes about 15 minutes for them to get their point across! |
Pretty much inactive since Ira is full time with WATCH THEM DIE and Nate with STORMCROW. Still one of the heaviest, best bands in the Bay - if not the country. Power trio all the way. We've been booking and supporting this band since show number one in 2001. |
Another fairly inactive band due to Paul and Scott's involvement with KALAS and Pamela Hell's full time work with ACDSHE. They played three times in 2005, two of them booked and promoted by us (one as a part of the 2005 B.O.B. Fest). Fans of EYEHATEGOD and IRON MONKEY would definitely find something to like about CRUEVO. "Droptuned Rotgut Rocknroll from Dogtown!" |
This is Rupert's (from ESKAPO) new band that is a bit more on the metalcore tip, but still hardcore mainly and definitely political. We booked them once in 2005 and hopefully the relationship will continue in the coming years. |
It's hard to believe, but our relationship with FRACAS stretches backs almost a half a dozen years now. We've rarely worked together on shows, but Joe is one of our loyal supporters and FRACAS continues to get better with every passing year. Punk rocknroll that takes it's cues from ACDC, FEAR, SAMHAIN...and there's even a little country influence from time to time. |
Skate Rock from San Francisco. Combining metal with hardcore and cool changes, HIGHTOWER are one of our favorite newer bands. They really do skate and they are good at it. 2005 was a busy one for HIGHTOWER and so we were only able to book them a couple of times, but both times they came through for us. They rule. PMO! |
Hailing from San Jose, MASACRE play an almost crusty style of thrash that is brutal and political. They are really good! Totally ripped both times that we saw them in 2005. Once was at the "Speed Rulez" and the other at the "DISember To DISmember" show at Shady Acres. |
Quirky, unpredicatbel punk rock from the East Bay. Lots of talent in this band, and so you never know what direction they will be headed in next. |
Watsonville band that definitely gives a shit. Fast thrashed out hardcore with political lyrics. We only worked with OUTRAGED once in 2005, but they were great that night and are definitely a great addition to any show. |
We booked these guys twice in 2005 (once as a part of the 2005 B.O.B. Fest) and they tore it up at both shows. Ex-members of CHEMICAL IMBALANCE, STRUNG UP are one of the best hardcore bands in the Bay Area that actually do have a history here that goes back longer than two or three years. |
One of the oldest, most loyal supporters of UGZ and Ear2TheGround Punx events. Joe, the store's owner, also plays in FRACAS. Axis Records has a huge new space over in East Oakland that you should definitely visit when you are in town. He supports local bands and labels like crazy. Thousands of records, cds, videos, books, and zines. |
Jello's label has been very loyal in terms of sending us promos to review for our zine and actually inquiring about advertising. Their current tastes, especially in terms of local signings, is definitely in line with our own. They release a lot of records and take a lot of chances on many different styles of music. |
Another very loyal label in terms of sending us promos in spite of our irregular printing schedule. This label is based in Wisconsin, and it has grown quite a bit over the years, but not in a bad way. They have so many good releases that I couldn't begin to list them, and quite an extensive mailorder list as well. |
Straight outta the LBC! Despotic and it's owner Alan are good people and we feel their heart is in the right place. Great mailorder selection. |
Felix has been a long time supporter of UGZ and while he has recently cut off the promos aparently, we appreciate what he does, the records his label releases, and his overall acknowledgement of UGZ for a number of years. Totally punk rock in a way that none of the larger Bay Area labels could never be. |
Home of BRAINOIL, LUDICRA, and ASUNDER. Oh yeah and DYSTOPIA. Consistent and never out of touch with the local underground, but also in touch with the international community as well. No promos, but an advertisement from time to time and just a general sense of supporting underground zines. |
We are not as stoked on PE as we once were, and they have also cut us from their promo mailing list, but over the past few years they have kept us on their radar and we appreciate it. They are active as hell these days (again), and while I don't see the threat anymore, it's still a relevant contributing entity. |
German label that is home to DEATHTOLL, AMERICA'S DIRTY THIRTYS, and CONSUME to name but a few. They seem down to earth and supportive of their bands. |
Big warehouse style, all ages venue in West Oakland. Shows happen about once a month max. %30 to the house and the rest to the booker/bands. Skate ramp and big stage. Contact a local booker if you are interested in playing the Arcadia. |
Basically the guy who gets his foot in the door first at every new Bay Area venue. He has many venue options and band contacts available to him at any given time. He is a consistent booker year round, and when he's not booking he's playing in one of his two currently active bands. So there is always something going on. |
The best booker at Gilman in terms of musical range and local focus. Unlike some of the better known bookers of Gilman past, Nick from Destructive Youth doesn't have a label or booty buddy relationships with local labels that can affect his overall vision. he is also a good go to guy for booking additional shows at venues like Burnt Ramen, etc. |
You know 'em, you love 'em. |
Downtown Oakland Bar that has shows on Sundays, mostly booked by San Francisco booker/promoter Scott Alcoholocaust. |
Warehouse style venue, all ages. We haven't booked there in a long time, but the last time we did it was %20 to the house and the rest to the booker/bands. Totally d.i.y. venue that is very accesible by public transportation and bike. Much less dangerous than other Oakland venues. 21+ over. Book directly through the warehouse. |
Dive bar in Alameda, CA and home to many a crazy, drunken punk rock shindig. MDC, DEMENTED ARE GOD, and DR.KNOW have played there. Why not you? 21+ over. contact a local booker to help assure yourself of a good show at this venue. You can often make much more money here than at other venues, depending on the draw. |
You know 'em, you love 'em. |
San Jose's hidden treasure. The best all ages underground venue in the South Bay and maybe the entire Bay. Lots of fun every time we've been there. |
